One day to go..

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle said in an edition of Scientific American  (in 1896!) "when the spirits are low, when the day appears dark, when work becomes monotonous... just mount a bicycle and go out for a spin down the road, without thought on anything but the ride you are taking.”    Well, in a day's time I will be checking this little observation out - not sure he has got it right, but hey, after six days "out for a spin" I should be in a position to verify.   Mind you, Louis de Saunier (no less indeed) also commented on this new (ish) form of transport of the time with his blistering attack “cycling has encountered more enemies than any other form of exercise.”

The jury is out (with a small "pocket size" pot of vaseline) and a load of goodwill to test these thoughts over a 100 years later - will keep you informed.   Cleaning the bike today.    Last minute preparations and absolutely no exercise (wey hey)  except for delivering the bike to London for tomorrow's start.

Excited with trepidation - that best of feelings - off to achieve something that will be testing - what's the point otherwise (I guess)?
